Our Fries

No French fries or Belgian fries – at Fabel Friet we bake real Dutch fries. Every day, we do our utmost to make the tastiest fries in Amsterdam. We use only the highest quality Agria potatoes from Dutch soil, specially developed for fries.

Fresh daily

Fabel Friet is cut fresh daily and pre-fried at low temperature, letting the potato lose moisture and cook slightly. After cooling to 5⁰C, it’s ready to finish frying.

We fry the fries with the skin on, preserving flavor and reducing waste by about 10%. The oil is 100% plant-based, giving golden fries that are soft inside and crispy outside.

For something special, try fries with fresh Parmesan and homemade truffle mayonnaise. Our Parmigiano Reggiano comes from Boselli in Parma, Italy, made traditionally with care for animal welfare.

- Luister

"At first the line looked long, but the wait was only about 15 minutes – absolutely worth it! The truffle mayo and Parmesan fries were delicious and a great deal for just €6.65. The portion was large and more than enough. Definitely worth a visit. Just note there is no seating inside – it’s more of a takeaway spot, perfect for grabbing a snack while exploring Amsterdam."

Our impact

What started as a small fry shop in the Runstraat has grown into one of Amsterdam’s most popular food hotspots. After the challenging first years during Corona, when we focused on the neighborhood, our name quickly became known. We are proud that so many people enjoy our fresh, artisanal fries daily. With popularity comes responsibility: we take measures to limit our impact on the neighborhood and contribute to a clean, livable city.

Discover how we make a difference for our city…

Crowd Managers

Queues? Yes, sometimes. Luckily, they move fast: you usually have your fries within 10 minutes.

On weekends, up to four crowd managers are outside to guide the line, keep the sidewalk clear for pedestrians and people with disabilities, and ask customers to enjoy spots along the canals rather than eating in front of neighbors.

These measures help us regulate the crowd and minimize inconvenience for the neighborhood.

Litter

Litter is a known problem in the city. We work with Stichting Het Koffiehuis, which provides day activities for homeless and undocumented people in exchange for coffee, lunch, clean clothes, and shelter.

From scattered packaging to small bulky waste – they help 365 days a year, two hours a day, to keep the neighborhood clean. Our own employees also make a large round every evening to pick up litter.

We wish no fry box ever ended up on the street, but we keep investing in solutions for a cleaner city. We maintain not just the required 25 meters, but an area of hundreds of meters.

Emptying municipal bins

Our business produces waste, but not all waste in the area comes from us. Other horeca and entrepreneurs contribute as well. Residents sometimes use bins for household waste, making them fill quickly.

To reduce this, we – in addition to the municipal cleaning service – empty bins around our store three times a day, totaling 27 extra emptyings per day. This prevents overflowing bins and accumulated waste.

With these extra efforts, we keep the neighborhood as clean as possible and minimize our impact.

140 employees

We employ 140 young people from Amsterdam, creating opportunities for local talent. Whether it’s a first part-time job or gaining work experience, we believe it’s important for young people to develop and build friendships.

By investing in young employees, we contribute to employment in the city and help them build valuable skills for the future.

We believe everyone deserves a chance in the job market. That’s why we also offer positions to young people with barriers to employment.

They are supported by an external job coach from the UWV, who helps with work skills, structure, and wellbeing, guiding them towards an independent future.

Together we keep the city clean.

Whether you live here, are exploring your own country, or visiting Amsterdam for the first time – together we share responsibility for this beautiful city. Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with historic canals, bustling streets, and lively neighborhoods. Let’s make sure it stays that way.

Keep the city clean: throw your trash in bins, take your packaging with you if no bin is nearby, and help keep the streets tidy. This way everyone – residents and visitors – can continue to enjoy Amsterdam.

Together we keep Amsterdam fabulous.
